I Remain a Loyal APC Member – Buhari

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has reaffirmed his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that he remains a dedicated member of the ruling party and has no intentions of abandoning it.
His declaration comes at a time of growing political realignments, with the recent defection of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) sparking speculations about potential shifts within the APC. Concerns have been raised over whether other key figures may follow suit, leading to uncertainty about the party’s stability ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, in a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Mallam Garba Shehu, Buhari sought to dispel any doubts regarding his political allegiance. He emphasized that his loyalty to the APC remains steadfast and that he will continue to work for its growth and unity.
“Without referring to any individual, group, or ongoing discussions within the party, former President Muhammadu Buhari reiterates that he remains a committed member of the APC and wishes to be recognized as such,” the statement read.
“He wants to leave no one in doubt that he would never turn his back on the party that gave him two terms in office and will do whatever he can to promote and strengthen it.”
Buhari also expressed his appreciation for the APC’s role in his political career, describing his two-term presidency as the highest honor conferred upon him. He stressed that the legacy of the party’s founding members must be preserved and upheld to sustain its influence in Nigeria’s political landscape.
> “I am an APC member, and I like to be addressed as such. I will try to popularize the party by all means,” he added.

With political dynamics shifting ahead of the 2027 general elections, Buhari’s firm stance on his APC membership is likely to shape discussions about the party’s cohesion and direction. His statement serves as both a reassurance to party loyalists and a reminder of the need for unity within the APC as it navigates evolving political tides.
