DSP Slumps and Dies While Having Meal at Police Command
Umuahia, Abia State – Tragedy struck at the Zone 9 Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Thursday, March 13, as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) suddenly slumped and died while having a meal within the command premises.
The officer, who had just returned from an investigative operation with his team, reportedly decided to eat before resuming his duties. However, witnesses say he began behaving strangely mid-meal before collapsing.
Efforts to save his life were met with challenges. His colleagues rushed him to the police clinic at the Central Police Station on Bende Road, Umuahia North Local Government Area, but were reportedly unable to find medical personnel on duty. The officer was then transferred to the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Umuahia, where he was later confirmed dead.
His body has since been deposited at the FMC morgue as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding his sudden death.

As of the time of filing this report, the Zone 9 Headquarters has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
This tragic event raises concerns about the health conditions of officers in active service and the state of emergency medical response within police formations.
