Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the driving force behind the Kwankwasiyya movement and the Presidential Candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), didn’t hold back when he spoke out against politicians who jump ship to rival parties after reaping the rewards of the public’s support. He called it the “greatest political sin” in a democracy, and you could feel the weight of his words.

This passionate address took place on Friday at his home on Miller Road in Kano, during a warm welcome for a group of defectors from Takai Local Government Area who were joining the NNPP. This wave of new members follows a series of high-profile departures from the NNPP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), including notable figures like Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila and Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum.

Kwankwaso took a moment to reflect on the past elections, noting that every political battle has taught his movement valuable lessons. With special emphasis on the ups and downs of the 2019 and 2023 elections, he expressed how the journey has made them smarter and more resilient.

He painted the Kwankwasiyya ideology as a people-first movement—not one led by financial handouts but fueled by a genuine desire to uplift everyday citizens.

“This movement is all about the people,” he asserted. “It’s not about cash bribes. Some folks tried to sway votes with mere N2,000 and some spaghetti. But the people of Kano stood their ground. If it were left to those selling their votes, the NNPP wouldn’t have made it.”

Kwankwaso didn’t hold back his disdain for those who, after gaining election victories through genuine support, decided to align themselves with their former opponents. To him, such actions cut deep.

“When you betray the trust of those who voted for you just to cozy up with their oppressors, it’s the ultimate betrayal in our democracy,” he declared passionately.

He issued a stern warning, likening any attempt to undermine the Kwankwasiyya movement to a serious misstep, describing it as a “solid wall” that stands unwavering.

“Taking on the Kwankwasiyya movement? That’s a grave mistake. You may not feel the impact until you get tangled in that fight—and then you’ll see just how tough it really is,” he cautioned.

Kwankwaso encouraged his supporters to hold their ground and keep rallying grassroots support in their communities. He reinforced the unity of their movement and their unwavering commitment to social justice and elevating the disadvantaged.

“Whether you’ve landed a job or a contract, we’re in this together for the right reasons. The poor now get it, and that’s where our real strength lies,” he concluded with a sense of pride.

He welcomed the new members into the NNPP with enthusiasm, expressing hope that the party would keep growing its influence in the political landscape.
