Gunmen Abduct Traditional Ruler in Kogi State, Sparking Outrage
In a brazen attack that has sent shockwaves through Kogi State, armed gunmen kidnapped Oba J.D. Ogunyanda Ilufemiloye, the revered Obalohun of Okoloke town in Yagba West Local Government Area. The monarch was seized from his palace in the early hours of Thursday, leaving the community in fear and outrage.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants stormed the palace around midnight, firing gunshots indiscriminately before whisking the traditional ruler away to an unknown location. The abduction has heightened concerns over security in the region, with many condemning the attack as a violation of cultural sanctity.
Tosin Olokun, Chairman of Yagba West LGA, confirmed the incident, describing it as “a reprehensible attack on our cultural heritage and peaceful coexistence.” He assured residents that security forces, alongside local hunters, have launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation. “We are intensifying surveillance and combing key areas to ensure the safe return of our monarch and others held captive,” Olokun stated.

However, confusion arose when the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, claimed the command had not yet received an official report. He promised updates once the Divisional Police Office in Yagba West provides details.
