Tragedy in Ore: Businessman Ismaila Awoyinka Assassinated After Ramadan Prayer
The quiet town of Ore, headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area in Ondo State, has been thrown into mourning following the brutal killing of a prominent businessman, Ismaila Awoyinka.
Awoyinka, a well-known dealer in building materials, was assassinated in cold blood at the entrance of his home, just moments after observing the Taraweeh prayer on the first night of Ramadan. The attack, carried out by unknown gunmen, has left the community in shock and despair.
A Night of Devotion Turned to Horror
According to sources, the tragic incident occurred over the weekend in the Idi-Mango area, directly opposite Caring Heart Mega School. Witnesses say Awoyinka had just stepped out of the mosque when the assailants, who had been lurking in the shadows, struck.
Kamoru, a resident, recounted the chilling moment:
“He (Awoyinka) was assassinated the moment he left the mosque after the Taraweeh prayer, very close to his house, around 8:35 p.m. on the fateful day.
“Some persons dressed in white alighted from a motorcycle and hid nearby. As he was about to enter his house, they ambushed him and shot him. He was shot at close range, and his intestines were exposed. He died instantly.”

A Community Gripped by Fear and Grief
The news of Awoyinka’s death spread like wildfire, sending shockwaves across the neighbourhood. Sympathisers, unable to comprehend the gruesome killing, flooded his residence, weeping and consoling his devastated family.
The streets of Ore, once bustling with business and daily life, now carry a heavy silence. The air is thick with fear, as residents grapple with the realization that a respected member of their community was cut down so mercilessly.
Local authorities, including the Chairman of Odigbo Local Government, Taiwo Adegoroye, have expressed deep sorrow over the killing. Community leaders, meanwhile, have called for heightened security, urging residents to be extra vigilant, especially at night.
A Life Cut Short, Questions Left Unanswered
Awoyinka was more than just a businessman; he was a father, a mentor, and a friend to many. His contributions to the local economy and his generosity were widely acknowledged. But now, his family is left to mourn, his business stands still, and his community is left asking the painful question—why?
As investigations continue, residents can only hope that justice will prevail, and that those responsible for this heinous act will be brought to book. But for now, Ore mourns, and another Ramadan night passes under the shadow of grief.
