Bakare Visits Tinubu, Pushes for Nigeria That Works

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday hosted Pastor Tunde Bakare, founder of the Citadel Global Community Church, at his Lagos residence for a closed-door meeting focused on Nigeria’s future.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Bakare—who once vied for the presidency under the All Progressives Congress (APC)—reaffirmed his lifelong commitment to seeing Nigeria become a nation that delivers for all its citizens.

“My life’s vision is to see a nation that works in my lifetime,” he declared. “That is what I shared with Mr. President.”

Though Bakare kept the details of the discussion under wraps, he emphasized that his proposals were presented in good faith, trusting the President to weigh them as he sees fit.

“They’re not hidden matters,” he noted. “But when you speak with the person in charge, you leave it to him to decide what to do with your suggestions.”

The clergyman described the atmosphere of the meeting as cordial and hopeful, saying he left the encounter with renewed optimism for the country’s direction.

When asked about his expectations for the remaining years of the Tinubu administration, Bakare called for national unity, peace, and tangible progress.

“I want to see a peaceful nation,” he said. “I want to see Nigerians being their brothers’ keeper. I’d also like to see a strong collaboration between the best minds from both North and South to steer the nation forward.”

Known for his outspoken advocacy for justice, equity, and national reform, Bakare urged the government to move beyond rhetoric and confront Nigeria’s deep-rooted challenges head-on.

“We’ve danced around some of these issues long enough,” he said. “It’s time for real action to ensure that our people no longer live in abject poverty.”
