Former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Major General Mahrazu Tsiga (rtd), has finally regained his freedom after spending 22 harrowing days in captivity.

Tsiga was released on Friday, though details surrounding his release remain unclear. Channels Television reported that he is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital for security reasons.

The retired general was abducted on February 6, 2025, when gunmen, led by the notorious bandit kingpin Babaro, stormed his residence in Tsifa Village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State. The attack left two persons injured, while one of the gunmen was reportedly killed by his gang in a mistaken shot.

The kidnappers had earlier demanded a ransom of N250 million for Tsiga’s release, but it is yet to be confirmed whether any money was paid. Government officials and security agencies, including the Katsina State Police Command, have not issued any official statement on his freedom.

Tsiga’s abduction had sparked widespread concern, given his prominence and the growing insecurity in the region. His release, however, raises further questions about the role of negotiations and ransom payments in securing the freedom of high-profile kidnapping victims.

Parrot Newspaper will provide more updates as the story develops.
