Abuja – The Senate has dismissed a petition filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in which she alleged sexual harassment.

At a probe session on Wednesday, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions, Senator Neda Imasuen (LP, Edo South), ruled the petition “dead on arrival,” citing procedural errors and its sub judice status.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was expected to appear before the panel, failed to show up. The session, scheduled for 2:00 PM, eventually began at 2:58 PM after waiting for her and Senator Yemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South), who arrived late.

The petition was dismissed on the grounds that Akpoti-Uduaghan personally signed it instead of securing a third-party endorsement, as required by Senate rules. Imasuen also noted that the matter was already in court, making Senate intervention inappropriate.

The controversy stems from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s public confrontation with Akpabio over her seat allocation, which she later escalated through an interview on Brekete Family. The Senate had referred the matter to the Ethics Committee for investigation two weeks ago.

With the petition now thrown out, the political tension between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio is expected to continue.
