Brit Awards Spark Backlash as Ofcom Receives Over 800 Complaints Over Sabrina Carpenter and Charli XCX
The 2025 Brit Awards have sparked controversy, with UK media regulator Ofcom receiving more than 800 complaints over pop star Sabrina Carpenter’s provocative performance and Charli XCX’s daring outfit.
Carpenter, 25, who is known for her risqué stage presence, delivered a performance that left many viewers stunned. She started her act in a red glittery military-style blazer, flanked by dancers dressed as the ‘King’s Guard,’ before stripping down to a bra, stockings, and suspenders for her song Bed Chem. Her sultry moves on a heart-shaped bed fueled online debates, especially since the performance aired before 9 p.m.
The backlash didn’t stop Carpenter from making light of the situation. At her Dublin concert shortly after, she playfully mocked the uproar by striking a deliberately subdued pose, hinting at the controversy surrounding her Brits performance.
Meanwhile, pop sensation Charli XCX, who swept the night with five awards, including Album of the Year, also faced criticism for her see-through dress. Some viewers found her outfit inappropriate for primetime television, adding to the growing number of complaints.

Despite the controversy, both artists remain at the center of pop culture discussions, with their bold choices only solidifying their status as boundary-pushing entertainers.
