Easter Celebration: FG Declares April 18, 21 Public Holidays
The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 18 and Monday, April 21 as public holidays to mark Good Friday and Easter Monday, two significant dates in the Christian calendar.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on behalf of the government in a statement issued by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians—especially the Christian faithful—to reflect on the core message of Easter: sacrifice, selflessness, and unconditional love, as exemplified by the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Beyond the festivities, the Minister encouraged citizens to dedicate time during the break to offer prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity, and stability, stressing that the nation needs healing and harmony now more than ever.
As churches prepare to hold services and families gear up for gatherings, the government’s message is clear: let Easter inspire hope, compassion, and national solidarity.
