Malari Village, Soba LGA, Kaduna State – In a shocking case of domestic violence, the Kaduna State Police Command has arrested 30-year-old Zaliha Shuaibu for the alleged murder of her co-wife’s three-month-old infant by force-feeding the child acid. The gruesome crime, which has sent tremors through the rural community of Malari, occurred on May 13, 2025, within the family’s shared compound.

The Incident: A Mother’s Worst Nightmare

According to police reports, the victim’s mother, Maryam Ibrahim, had briefly left her baby unattended to use the bathroom. Upon her return, she found the infant in Zaliha’s arms.

“The baby was handed back to Maryam, but she immediately noticed foam oozing from his mouth and a severe burn on his neck,” said ASP Mansir Hassan, the Kaduna Police Public Relations Officer.

Despite frantic efforts to save the child, he was pronounced dead on arrival at a local medical facility.

A Cold-Blooded Confession

Police investigations revealed a chilling plot. Zaliha, during interrogation, admitted to poisoning the baby with acid—a substance allegedly supplied by her husband’s younger brother, Lawal Muhammad, who remains at large.

“The suspect confessed that Lawal provided the corrosive chemical used in this horrific act,” ASP Hassan disclosed.

Police Vow Justice Amid Community Outrage

The Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State, CP Rabiu Muhammad, has vowed to ensure all perpetrators face the full wrath of the law.

“We will leave no stone unturned. The fleeing suspect will be tracked down, and justice will prevail,” CP Muhammad asserted.

Underlying Tensions: Polygamy and Domestic Strife

While the police probe continues, sources within Malari village suggest long-simmering tensions between the co-wives. Residents describe Zaliha as “withdrawn and resentful” toward Maryam, though the exact motive remains unclear.

Community leaders have called for calm but expressed horror at the brutality of the crime. “This is an abomination. No child deserves such cruelty,” lamented a local elder who requested anonymity.

Next Steps

The suspect, Zaliha, remains in police custody.

A manhunt is underway for Lawal Muhammad.

An autopsy is expected to confirm the exact cause of death.
