Four Police Inspectors Allegedly Abduct and Extort N151.5 Million from Diasporan Nigerian
By Investigative Desk
Allegations of abduction and large-scale extortion have emerged against four serving inspectors of the Nigeria Police Force, accused of unlawfully detaining a foreign-based Nigerian, Mr. Segun Okubajo, and coercing his family into paying N151.5 million.
The claims are contained in a detailed petition sent to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, on May 2, 2025. The petition, authored by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Prof. Yemi Oke on behalf of the victim’s father, Mr. Kehinde Okubajo, calls for an urgent investigation into what it describes as a criminal conspiracy within the ranks of the force.
The four named officers—Inspector Mohammed Yusuf (No. 229655), Inspector Ojochenemi Jubrin (No. 227141), Inspector Rizama Reuben (No. 318195), and Inspector Isokpuwu John (No. 318172)—allegedly stormed Mr. Okubajo’s Lagos residence on October 9, 2024. Armed and operating without a warrant or prior complaint, the inspectors reportedly disabled the victim’s CCTV system, seized his personal devices, and transported him to Abuja in leg chains and handcuffs.
The family contends that Mr. Okubajo, who had no known criminal allegations against him, was held incommunicado at the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Area 10, Garki, Abuja. During this period, the officers allegedly demanded N1 billion for his release, before eventually accepting a negotiated sum of N151.5 million.
“The sum was raised through business loans, contributions from friends and cooperatives, all in desperation to save our client’s son from harm,” the petition states.
It further alleges that the operation was instigated by two alleged police informants—Oladipo Ibrahim and Shedrach Luka—accused of orchestrating false allegations against foreign-based Nigerians in collusion with corrupt officers, purely for extortion purposes.
According to the petition, the ordeal did not end with the release of Mr. Okubajo. Upon returning abroad, he and his family reportedly began receiving threats, warning them not to seek justice through legal or public channels.
Disturbingly, the petition also claims that a significant portion of the extorted money was allegedly funneled to a retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, identified as Sylvester Abiodun Alabi—a claim that remains unverified at press time.
Although an earlier complaint was submitted to police authorities in November 2024, the family alleges no meaningful response was received, prompting the latest petition, which now includes documentary evidence such as video recordings and photographs.
The petition calls on the IGP to:
Order a full-scale investigation into the conduct of the four inspectors.
Ensure immediate refund of the extorted N151.5 million.
Implement disciplinary action against the officers.
Guarantee the safety of the victim and his family members.
Extract undertakings from the implicated officers to cease further threats.
It also warns that if no action is taken within 14 days, the legal team will escalate the matter, including litigation and petitions to both domestic and international human rights bodies.
