The Delta State Police Command has arrested a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Bogbon Godwell, for allegedly operating a gun-running syndicate in the state.
According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) conducted a sting operation on March 9 at the couple’s residence in Okpe Local Government Area. The raid, based on credible intelligence, led to their arrest and the recovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol with a single live round of ammunition, which was reportedly set for delivery to a client in Sapele.
Further investigations revealed that the wife had been serving as the dispatcher of the illegal arms trade, delivering weapons to clients in Warri and Sapele under her husband’s instructions. Following her confession, the police arrested another suspect, Junior Moses Ogedegbe, a 30-year-old resident of Useifurun community in Ughelli South Local Government Area, identified as a member of the syndicate.
SP Edafe confirmed that efforts are ongoing to recover more arms and apprehend other members of the gang. The Delta State Police Command reiterated its commitment to curbing criminal activities in the region, warning those involved in illegal arms dealings to desist or face the full wrath of the law.

Residents have lauded the police for the swift operation, emphasizing the need for sustained efforts to tackle the proliferation of illegal arms in Delta State.
