How Nigerian Footballer Falls to Death in Uganda
Nigerian footballer Abubakar Lawal, who played for Uganda’s Vipers Sports Club, tragically passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025, in Kampala, Uganda. Initial reports suggested that Lawal died in a motorcycle accident on Entebbe Road while en route to a training session. However, Ugandan police have since clarified that Lawal’s death resulted from a fall from the third floor of the Voicemall Shopping Arcade.
According to the police statement, Lawal visited the shopping mall to meet his friend, Omary Naima, a Tanzanian national residing in room 416 since February 20, 2025. Naima reported that she left Lawal in the room preparing tea and proceeded to a game center within the mall. Shortly after, at approximately 8:00 AM, Lawal reportedly fell from the balcony. He was rushed to Entebbe Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage and conducting thorough investigations to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Lawal, 29, joined Vipers SC in July 2022 from Rwanda’s AS Kigali and was instrumental in their 2022/23 Uganda Premier League title victory. Before moving to East Africa, he played for several Nigerian Premier League teams, including Kano Pillars FC, Wikki Tourists FC, and Nasarawa United. Vipers SC confirmed his passing in an official statement, expressing deep sorrow and extending condolences to his family, friends, and fans.
