How Trump Prophesied a Pope Coming from America
United States President, Donald Trump has reacted to the election of Cardinal Robert Prevost of Chicago as Pope Leo XIV on Thursday, May 8
Well, it’s a big day for the Catholic Church and America! President Donald Trump is quite pleased with the news that the papal conclave has elected Cardinal Robert Prevost, born in Chicago, as the first American pope. This momentous event took place on May 8, and Trump wasted no time sharing his excitement on social media.

“Congratulations to Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who was just named Pope,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “It’s such an honor to celebrate that he is the first American Pope. What an exciting moment for our country! I can’t wait to meet Pope Leo XIV. It’s going to be a very meaningful encounter!”
When that telltale white smoke rose from the Sistine Chapel, it was a sure sign that the two-day conclave had concluded. Shortly after, the protodeacon of the College of Cardinals stepped out onto the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica and declared, “habemus papam,” or “we have a pope.”
Pope Leo XIV, as Cardinal Prevost chose to be called, addressed the enthusiastic crowd at the Vatican for the first time, saying simply, “Peace be with you.”
At 69 years old, Prevost started his spiritual journey in Chicago before serving in Peru, where he holds dual citizenship in both the U.S. and Peru. He was recently appointed as the president of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America in 2023.
Trump’s Prophecy
“Now, back in April, Trump had joked about wanting to be pope himself after the passing of Pope Francis, saying, “I’d like to be pope. That would be my number one choice.” But as the situation grew more serious, he expressed that he was hoping for an American pope
“There’s a cardinal out of New York who’s very good,” Trump mentioned, seemingly referring to New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan. “We’ll see what happens.” Dolan even delivered the invocation at Trump’s second inauguration back in January and led Pope Francis’ funeral mass at the celebrated St. Patrick’s Cathedral in NYC just days before.
Exciting times ahead for both the church and for American history!
