Investigative Report: Inside the Web of Allegations Surrounding Mohbad’s Death
By Parrot Newspaper Investigations Team
The controversy surrounding the tragic death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa “Mohbad” Aloba has taken a new twist, following fresh allegations from his widow, Omowumi. In an explosive interview with Arise TV, Omowumi accused her father-in-law, Joseph Aloba, of meeting with controversial record label boss Naira Marley and allegedly securing the release of suspects arrested in connection to her husband’s death.
These claims, if substantiated, could add a new dimension to an already convoluted case that has gripped the Nigerian public since Mohbad’s passing on September 12, 2023. Parrot Newspaper launched an in-depth investigation into the allegations, speaking to key legal figures, forensic analysts, and individuals close to the case to uncover the truth behind the accusations.
A Shocking Connection?
Omowumi, speaking alongside her lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu, did not mince words. She alleged that Joseph Aloba not only maintained contact with Naira Marley—who had a fraught history with Mohbad—but also played a role in securing bail for some suspects arrested during the early stages of the investigation.
“Mohbad’s father has been going to him,” Akingbolu stated, referring to Naira Marley. “Even some people that were arrested for the murder of Mohbad, the man went there and bailed them out.”
Who were these suspects? According to Omowumi, they included Ayobami Sadiq, a key figure who allegedly fought with Mohbad at a show before his death, Sadiq’s unnamed friend who called the nurse that treated the singer, and Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the nurse who administered the fatal injection.
The insinuation that Aloba—Mohbad’s own father—could have aligned himself with individuals suspected of being involved in his son’s death is a startling one. But what evidence exists to support these claims?
Tracing the Bail Allegations
Court documents reviewed by Parrot Newspaper indicate that multiple individuals were initially detained during the investigation into Mohbad’s death. However, records of bail applications do not explicitly list Joseph Aloba as a surety for any of the suspects.
A legal expert who spoke to us on condition of anonymity said:
“For someone to secure bail, they must either provide financial guarantees or vouch for the suspect. If Mohbad’s father played any role in facilitating bail for suspects, there should be legal documentation confirming this.”
However, media efforts to obtain such documentation from court registries and legal practitioners involved in the case yielded no official proof of Aloba’s involvement in securing bail for any suspect. This raises the question: Did Aloba work behind the scenes, leveraging personal relationships rather than formal legal channels?
Aloba’s Relationship with the Defense Lawyer
Beyond the bail allegations, Omowumi also claimed that Aloba shared a cordial relationship with Odumosu, the defense lawyer representing some of the suspects. She accused the lawyer of “coaching” the suspects on what to say.
Legal analysts point out that defense lawyers often prepare their clients for questioning, but if coaching involves instructing them to provide false testimony, it could amount to obstruction of justice.
Parrot Newspaper is unable to reach out to Odumosu for comments, to speak on the allegations.
The Nurse, the Injection, and Unanswered Questions
A pivotal aspect of the case revolves around the role of nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who administered the injections before Mohbad’s death. Omowumi insists that her husband’s condition deteriorated rapidly after receiving a third injection.
“The nurse who administered the injection has seen how I’ve been bullied, but she has been clubbing, partying, living her life, and has said nothing,” Omowumi lamented.
Medical experts consulted by Parrot Newspaper explained that repeated injections without proper monitoring can cause adverse reactions, especially if a patient has an undiagnosed allergy. However, without an independent toxicology report, it is difficult to determine whether the nurse’s actions were negligent or malicious.

The court, in its latest ruling, decided that Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Owodunni “Primeboy” Ibrahim, and Mohbad’s manager, Babatunde Opere, should be discharged due to insufficient evidence. Instead, it ordered the prosecution of the nurse and Sadiq for alleged recklessness and negligence.
Aloba Speaks: Denial or Damage Control?
In response to the allegations, Joseph Aloba has denied any wrongdoing. He insists that he has only been seeking justice for his son and dismissed the claims as an attempt to tarnish his image.
“It is painful that people are spreading lies about me. I have no relationship with those people (the suspects), and I want justice for my son more than anyone,” Aloba told a local news outlet.
His denial, however, has done little to quiet suspicions, especially given his past clashes with Omowumi over Mohbad’s estate and their son, Liam.
Conclusion: A Case Far from Over
The allegations against Joseph Aloba are serious, but as of now, they remain unproven. While Omowumi’s claims have ignited public outrage, the legal system demands concrete evidence before assigning guilt.
What is clear is that the investigation into Mohbad’s death is far from over. Questions remain about the nurse’s conduct, the role of the suspects, and whether there was a larger conspiracy at play.
For now, the nation watches closely, waiting to see whether justice—real justice—will be served.
