Breaking News: New Leadership at NNPC

April 2, 2025

Big changes are underway at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC). President Bola Tinubu has just made headlines by removing Pius Akinyelure, the chairman, and Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer, from their positions.

In an announcement made early this morning by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, it was confirmed that Bashir Ojulari will take the reins as the new CEO, effective immediately.

Details of the Board Reconstitution

Onanuga’s statement also detailed that all other board members who were appointed alongside Akinyelure and Kyari back in November 2023 have been let go.

“The newly formed 11-member board welcomes Engineer Bashir Bayo Ojulari as the Group CEO, with Ahmadu Musa Kida stepping in as the non-executive chairman,” the statement reads.

Adedapo Segun, who had previously succeeded Umaru Ajiya as the chief financial officer, is also part of this fresh lineup.

#### A Diverse Representation

To ensure a well-rounded structure, the new board features six non-executive directors representing various geopolitical zones in Nigeria. Here’s how the representation breaks down:

– **North West**: Bello Rabiu
– **North East**: Yusuf Usman
– **North Central**: Babs Omotowa, a former managing director of the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas

From the South, we have:
– **South-South**: Austin Avuru
– **South West**: David Ige
– **South East**: Henry Obih

Additionally, the new board includes Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, serving as the permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, along with Aminu Ahmed representing the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
