Moscow Comes Under Largest Drone Attack Amid High-Stakes U.S.-Ukraine Talks
Moscow comes under ‘largest’ drone attack leaving civilians killed and three injured
Moscow, Russia – Russia has faced its most extensive Ukrainian drone attack of the war, with Moscow officials confirming that 337 drones were shot down across 10 regions overnight. The unprecedented assault comes as Ukraine responds to a series of brutal Russian offensives and coincides with crucial diplomatic talks between Kyiv and the United States.
The Russian Defence Ministry reported that at least one civilian was killed and several others injured as explosions and fires erupted in multiple locations, including residential high-rises near Moscow. Kursk, a region bordering Ukraine, witnessed the highest number of attacks, with 126 drones intercepted, while 91 were taken down over the Moscow region. Other affected areas included Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, and deeper Russian territories such as Kaluga, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, and Ryazan.

Kyiv has yet to comment on the attack, but the timing is significant. A Ukrainian delegation is meeting U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Saudi Arabia to discuss possible pathways to ending the war, now entering its third year. President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was in Jeddah for talks with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, will not attend today’s meeting, following his recent fallout with President Donald Trump.
The scale of the attack underscores Ukraine’s growing use of drone warfare as a countermeasure to Russia’s relentless airstrikes. It also raises questions about Russia’s air defense capabilities, particularly in securing key regions far from the front lines.
With no immediate response from the Kremlin beyond its air defense report, tensions between the two nations continue to escalate, making the ongoing diplomatic discussions even more critical.
