Newcastle United’s star striker, Alexander Isak, was among the victims of a burglary gang that carried out a series of high-value break-ins across the region, a court has heard.

The Swedish international’s Northumberland home was broken into last April, with thieves stealing a vehicle that was later found abandoned in nearby Dissington.

Prosecutors at Newcastle Crown Court revealed that Isak was the third known victim of the gang, which had earlier stolen jewelry and designer items worth over £1 million from a local businessman.

Three members of the same family, residing in Italy, have admitted to conspiracy to commit burglary. However, a fourth suspect, 32-year-old Valentino Nikolov, denies the charge and is currently on trial.

According to prosecutor Dan Cordey, the gang arrived in the UK via ferry from Calais to Dover in March, using a Citroën C3 and a Ford motorhome. They initially traveled to London before heading to the northeast of England, where they allegedly targeted multiple high-value properties.

The first reported burglary took place at the Newcastle home of Helen and Michael McCardle on March 30 while they were on holiday. The thieves stole luxury items, including jewelry, handbags, gold coins, and even Helen McCardle’s CBE medal.

Another raid occurred in Sunderland, where the gang allegedly took designer clothing, jewelry, and cash worth over £100,000.

The trial continues, with Nikolov representing himself in court, requiring an Italian interpreter. Meanwhile, his brother, Giacomo Nikolov, 28, his sister, Jela Jovanovic, 43, and her son, Charlie Jovanovic, 23, have all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit burglary.

More updates to follow as the case unfolds.
