The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a stern warning to Nigerians against modifying their National Identification Number (NIN) data through unauthorized sources, emphasizing that such actions could expose individuals to identity theft.

In a statement released on Monday, the Commission’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, stressed that all modifications must be carried out exclusively via the official NIMC self-service portal: Selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng.

“To ensure the security and integrity of your National Identification Number (NIN) data, modifications can only be done on the official NIMC self-service portal,” the statement read. “Do not attempt to modify your NIN data on any unauthorized websites, as this may compromise your personal information and put you at risk of identity theft.”

Dr. Adegoke assured Nigerians that using the approved portal guarantees data protection while providing the convenience of updating information from any location. He urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid third-party platforms that claim to offer NIN modification services.

NIMC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding national identity data and urged citizens to prioritize security in handling their personal information.
