Obi Needs no Coalition to Defeat Tinubu in 2027 – NLC
## Labour Party’s Candidate Poised for Victory
In a recent declaration, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has made it clear: Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate for the upcoming 2023 presidential election, doesn’t need to forge alliances with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or rely on support from notable political figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or ex-Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to clinch the presidency in 2027.
### A Force to Be Reckoned With
During an exclusive interview, Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, the Deputy President of the NLC Political Commission, emphasized that Obi is not only a strong candidate but also enjoys widespread acceptance among the populace. According to Ndubuaku, Obi is more than capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu in a contest characterized by fairness and integrity.
### Dismissing Any Notion of Rejoining the PDP
Ndubuaku swiftly refuted any rumors regarding Obi’s potential return to the PDP, labeling the party as “crisis-ridden and near-empty.” He articulated, “Peter Obi doesn’t need any coalition to win the 2027 presidential election. He is a sellable candidate. Recall how he was on a trajectory toward victory in the 2023 elections prior to the controversial glitches. Notably, he even managed to outshine Tinubu in Lagos, a stronghold for the current President, which underlines the desire of Nigerians for Obi’s leadership.”

### Confidence in a Fair Electoral Process
With optimism, Ndubuaku stated, “Provided that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducts a transparent and fair election, Peter Obi will emerge victorious. He possesses the capability to leverage both his local and international connections to facilitate this process.”
His assertions come on the heels of the Obidients Movement’s steadfast vow of support for Obi, regardless of which platform he chooses for his 2027 campaign.
### Rallying for Economic Revival
Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidients Movement, emphasized the urgent need for Nigeria’s recovery, asserting that Obi is the only candidate equipped to navigate the country out of its current economic turmoil.
Echoing this sentiment, Ndubuaku pointed out that Obi enjoys widespread acceptance across all six geopolitical zones and cautioned against any inclination to revert to the PDP. “No serious candidate will view the PDP as a viable option today,” he stated. “Obi is a disciplined individual. If anyone suggests he rejoin the PDP, on what grounds? Compare the struggles of the PDP with those of the Labour Party. The Labour Party’s internal crisis involving Julius Abure has already been resolved by the Supreme Court, while the PDP continues to grapple with multifaceted issues. Transitioning from LP to PDP would be akin to jumping from the frying pan into the fire.”
### Addressing Concerns Over Zoning and Rotation
Furthermore, Ndubuaku dispelled concerns surrounding zoning and power rotation, attributing these anxieties to misunderstandings about Obi’s capability for governance. “Some have reservations based on the notion that should Obi win, he might occupy the presidency for a full eight years, which the North fears could disrupt the zoning equilibrium. However, it’s crucial to recognize that Peter Obi doesn’t need two full terms to revitalize Nigeria. His aspirations are not driven by a desperation for power,” he concluded.
In conclusion, it’s clear that Peter Obi—supported by the NLC and the Obidients Movement—is positioning himself as a strong player in the upcoming elections, with an focused vision for Nigeria’s future.
