Panic as Explosion Rocks Lagos
By Parrot Newsroom

Chaos broke out in the Ikeja Under Bridge area of Lagos on Friday evening after a sudden explosion sent shockwaves through the bustling neighbourhood.

Eyewitnesses say the blast, which happened around 6:30 p.m., came from a building where a solar inverter reportedly blew up without warning.

“It was terrifying! One moment everything was fine, and the next, we just heard this loud bang. People started running in all directions,” said Rabiu Abass, who spoke to Parrot Newspaper at the scene.

Within minutes, the Lagos Fire and Rescue Service had arrived, battling to contain the flames and ease the panic. Director of the Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, tried to calm frayed nerves, assuring residents that emergency crews had things under control.

“Everyone should remain calm. The situation is under control,” she said confidently.

But at the time of filing this report, around 8:30 p.m., firefighters were still working hard to completely douse the flames and prevent further damage to the building affected by the blast.

The incident caused a heavy traffic snarl in the area, with commuters stuck for hours and bystanders glued to the scene in shock.

Though no casualties have been confirmed yet, the sudden explosion left residents rattled, a stark reminder of the need for stricter safety measures around electrical installations in the city.
