The Lagos State Police Command has dismantled a Pakistani-led kidnapping syndicate, arresting two of its members while rescuing their victim in Ikeja, Lagos.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday, March 6, 2025.

According to Hundeyin, officers from the Ikeja Division responded swiftly to a distress call on Wednesday, March 5, regarding the abduction of a 48-year-old Pakistani man. The police’s rapid intervention led to the arrest of two suspects—Roman Gull (19) and Aftab Ahmad (28)—while five other members of the gang managed to escape.

How the Kidnappers Operated

Preliminary investigations revealed that the seven-member gang lured the victim from Kano to Lagos with the promise of a chef job. They even booked his flight and accommodated him in a hotel on February 28, 2025.

The next day, the gang ambushed him, tied him up, and demanded a ransom of ₦50 million from his employer in Kano. In a bid to buy time, the employer sent ₦1 million before alerting the police.

Rescue Operation and Seized Items

Acting on the tip-off, anti-crime patrol officers tracked down the suspects and successfully rescued the victim in good health. Recovered from the kidnappers were:

A grey Toyota Camry used for their operations

The victim’s $2,000 cash

Three ATM cards

A green card

A driver’s license and a National Identification Number (NIN) slip

Manhunt for Fleeing Suspects

While the two arrested suspects remain in custody, the police have launched a manhunt for the remaining five gang members. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have promised to bring all perpetrators to justice.

Police Assure Lagos Residents of Safety

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, praised the Ikeja Division officers for their swift action. He reassured Lagos residents and visitors of the police command’s commitment to public safety.

With the rise in transnational crimes, this operation highlights the importance of vigilance and timely reporting in tackling criminal activities.
