Forty-eight hours after Parrot Newspaper broke the troubling news about 15 JAMB candidates who went missing after traveling from Onitsha to Imo State, the Imo State Police Command has finally confirmed that all students have been found — safe and unharmed.
The students, along with their school proprietor and staff from Eminent Scholars Imperial Academy, Onitsha, had traveled to a CBT center in the Okigwe Zone of Imo State on May 16 to sit for their rescheduled JAMB exams. But after the exams, they seemed to vanish without a trace.
That silence triggered alarm — first raised by Parrot Newspaper, which was the first to report the students’ disappearance and shine a light on the growing concern from parents, school authorities, and the wider public.
Now, two days after Parrot Newspaper’s exclusive report, the Imo State Police have issued an official statement to calm nerves: “No abduction took place,” they said.

According to police, the school bus broke down in the Amuro area of Okigwe — a place with notoriously poor mobile network coverage. The mechanical failure and communication blackout led to panic and speculation, with fears that the students had been kidnapped.
The police said that once the matter came to their attention, they launched a coordinated patrol alongside sister security agencies. The students were eventually located and safely escorted to Owerri. From there, the bus was repaired and the entire group returned to Onitsha on May 17 — tired, but healthy and safe.
In their statement, the police thanked members of the public for their concern but urged against spreading unverified news — although it’s worth noting that in this case, the early reports by Parrot Newspaper helped prompt swift action and public attention.
