Libyan authorities have arrested a suspected human trafficker attempting to smuggle four Nigerian women and three children through the Ashkada-Sabha Triangle Gate.

The arrest, which took place on Monday, May 19, 2025, was confirmed by Migrant Rescue Watch, a group monitoring migrant movements in the region. According to the organization, the suspect—a Libyan national identified as Y.A.M.Y., born in 1993—was apprehended during a routine inspection.

In a bid to evade arrest, the driver allegedly attempted to bribe law enforcement officers at the checkpoint. However, police rejected the offer and proceeded with the arrest.

The seven Nigerian nationals, all undocumented migrants, have been handed over to the Al-Shatti Security Directorate for further legal processing. Authorities say the case will be transferred to the appropriate judicial bodies for prosecution.
