It’s with a heavy heart that we share this tragic news—another young life cut short, another family shattered. Ella, a bright 400-level student at Kwararafa University, was killed in a horrifying incident involving the Nigeria Police in Benue State.

Imagine this: a routine stop-and-search operation at Wurukum Roundabout in Makurdi turns deadly. Officers from the Makurdi E Division open fire on a vehicle—why? We don’t know. But what we do know is that a bullet struck Ella, ending her life in an instant. She was just a student, with dreams, ambitions, and a future ahead of her. Gone.

Human rights activist Ukan Kurugh didn’t mince words, calling it “another unacceptable loss of innocent life.” And he’s right. How many more? How many more families must grieve before something changes?

We reached out to the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, for answers. Her response? A vague text: “I will call you back.” But as of now, silence. No explanation. No accountability. Just another life lost, another story buried in unanswered questions

Ella deserved better. Her family deserves justice. And Nigeria deserves a police force that protects, not destroys. When will enough be enough?
