Rivers 2025 budget: Tinubu presents N1.481trn to NASS

Tinubu Seeks National Assembly’s Approval for Rivers’ N1.48 Trillion Budget

President Bola Tinubu has asked the National Assembly to step in and approve the 2025 budget for Rivers State, following the Supreme Court’s nullification of the previous version and the ongoing state of emergency in the region.

In a letter sent to the lawmakers, Tinubu presented a revised budget of N1.481 trillion, emphasizing the need for swift action to ensure governance and development don’t stall in the state.

You’ll recall that Rivers State has been under emergency rule since March 18, 2025, when the President suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the House of Assembly for six months. As a result, the state legislature hasn’t been sitting.

To keep things running, Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) was appointed as Sole Administrator, while the National Assembly took over the legislative duties of the state assembly, as allowed by the amended 1999 Constitution.

So, what’s in the budget?

According to Tinubu, N324 billion is set aside for infrastructure, N166 billion for healthcare, N75.6 billion for education, and N31.4 billion for agriculture. Notably, the agricultural sector is expected to create around 6,000 jobs—a much-needed boost for the local economy.
