The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) isn’t holding back when it comes to protecting its campus community. In a bold move, the institution has shown the door to three lecturers, following confirmed cases of sexual harassment.
The affected lecturers — Mr. Nurudeen Hassan from the Mass Communication department, alongside Mr. Kareem Arigbabu and Mr. Olayinka Uthman, both from the Arts & Design department — were officially dismissed after the university’s Governing Council wrapped up its investigation.
In an internal memo titled “Dismissal of Staff Members Due to Sexual Harassment Allegations”, the university made it clear: this wasn’t a rushed decision. The Governing Council, acting under Section 5.5.2(v) of LASUSTECH’s Senior Staff Conditions of Service, reached its verdict after what they described as a “thorough deliberation.”
“The Governing Council has taken decisive action following serious allegations of sexual harassment against three staff members. After a careful investigation, their dismissal has been approved — effective immediately,” the memo firmly stated.
LASUSTECH didn’t mince words about its zero-tolerance stance. The university stressed that cases like these not only tarnish its reputation but also undermine the sanctity of its learning environment.

“Allegations of sexual harassment are matters we take with utmost seriousness. Such behaviour threatens the safety and integrity of our academic community,” the statement emphasized, underscoring the school’s unwavering commitment to a safe, respectful campus for all.
Speaking with Parrot Newspaper, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olanrewaju Kuye, confirmed the dismissals were the outcome of a rigorous process.
“Yes, it’s true. All three lecturers have been dismissed. The Governing Council and disciplinary committee followed due process — they were issued queries and given the opportunity to respond before the final decision was made,” Kuye explained.
This action by LASUSTECH sends a strong message: the days of looking the other way are over. For anyone crossing the line, the consequences are clear and uncompromising
