President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF). His appointment takes effect from March 7, 2025, the same day the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin, is set to retire.
Ogunjimi, 57, emerged as the preferred candidate after a rigorous selection process conducted by a committee tasked with identifying the most qualified individual for the role. The selection process involved three stages: a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and an oral interview.
According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Ogunjimi’s appointment reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to transparency, excellence, and competence in public service.

A seasoned financial expert, Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment and urged him to uphold the principles of integrity, professionalism, and dedication in his service to the nation.
