Why late gospel singer Osinachi’s husband was sentenced to death by hanging
Peter Nwachukwu Sentenced to Death in High-Profile Case
### Overview of the Case
In a significant ruling, Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of the late renowned gospel singer Osinachi, has been sentenced to death by hanging. This decision was handed down by Justice Nwosu-Iheme at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja on Monday.
### The Charges and Trial Proceedings
Nwachukwu faced serious allegations, culminating in a 23-count charge which included culpable homicide leading to the death of his wife on April 8, 2022. The charges also addressed themes of criminal intimidation, cruelty toward children and spouses, and spousal battery. The case was brought against him by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF) on June 3, 2022.
During the trial, the prosecution presented a robust case, calling 17 witnesses, including the couple’s two children, who provided poignant testimonies. Furthermore, 25 documents were submitted as evidence, painting a detailed picture of the circumstances surrounding Osinachi’s tragic passing.
### Defense and Sentencing
In his defense, Nwachukwu took the stand, supported by his lawyers, who introduced four additional witnesses and supplemented their arguments with four exhibits. Despite this, the burden of proof rested heavily on the prosecution’s shoulders, and it was determined they met this burden convincingly.
Before the sentencing, Nwachukwu’s attorney, Reginald Nwali, appealed for leniency. However, the prosecutor, Mrs. Aderonke Imala, urged the court to fully enforce the law and impose strict penalties in light of the severity of the offenses.
Ultimately, Justice Nwosu-Iheme delivered the court’s judgment, sentencing Nwachukwu to death by hanging on the primary count of culpable homicide. In addition, he received two years of imprisonment for several other counts, including counts 2, 3, 8, 9, 12, 13, and 18. Other sentences included six months for count 10 and three years for count 11, alongside fines of N500,000 and N200,000 for counts 6 and 7, respectively.

### Conclusion
This case has captivated public attention, bringing to light serious issues surrounding domestic violence and the legal system’s response. The ruling serves as a reminder of the justice process and emphasizes the importance of upholding law and order in society.
