“You’re a Fool!” – Senator Nwaebonyi and Ezekwesili Clash at Heated Senate Hearing
Senate Ethics Committee Hearing Turns Chaotic
A dramatic scene unfolded at the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions on Tuesday when Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, representing Ebonyi North, lashed out at former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili, calling her a “fool.”
The heated exchange, which momentarily disrupted proceedings, occurred during deliberations on a petition filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Tensions Rise Over Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Petition
Ezekwesili, who attended the hearing alongside Abiola Akiode, legal counsel to Akpoti-Uduaghan, and petitioner Zubairu Yakubu, found herself in a verbal war with Nwaebonyi after she attempted to intervene during the session.
Trouble started when Yakubu attempted to speak while Committee Chairman Neda Imaseun was addressing the panel. Imaseun ordered Yakubu to mute his microphone, prompting Ezekwesili to step in. This move did not sit well with Nwaebonyi, who was present as a witness for Akpabio.
‘You’re a Fool!’ – Verbal War Erupts
As Ezekwesili spoke, Nwaebonyi, visibly angered, cut her off and snapped: “You’re a fool. What do you mean? Why are you talking to me like that? I will not take it. You’re an insult to womanhood. People like you cannot be here.”
Ezekwesili, refusing to back down, fired back: “You’re a hooligan.”
The heated exchange momentarily halted proceedings, with both parties locked in a war of words before the chairman intervened.

Case Adjourned as Legal Battle Looms
Following the dramatic exchange, Committee Chairman Neda Imaseun restored order and announced that the case was now before a court. As a result, the committee adjourned the hearing abruptly, leaving many questions unanswered regarding Akpoti-Uduaghan’s petition against Akpabio.

The clash between Nwaebonyi and Ezekwesili has sparked widespread reactions, with many questioning the level of decorum in Nigeria’s legislative chambers. With the matter now in court, political observers are keenly watching to see how events unfold and what impact this could have on Senate leadership dynamics.
