My Mother Raised Me Well – Akpabio Denies Sexual Harassment Allegation, Cites Upbringing and Family Values
By Ricky Awodi
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has strongly denied allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing the claims as false and urging Nigerians to await the court’s decision.
Speaking during Wednesday’s plenary session, Akpabio dismissed the allegations, emphasizing that he was raised by a single mother who instilled in him deep respect for women. He recounted receiving numerous calls about the matter and acknowledged the social media discourse surrounding it.

“At no time did I sexually harass Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan,” he stated. “I and my siblings were raised very well by my late single mother, who passed away in the year 2000. I have the highest regard for women, and even as a governor, I was recognized as the most gender-friendly governor in Nigeria.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan had earlier alleged on Arise TV that the Senate President made inappropriate advances toward her at his Uyo residence on December 8, 2023, in the presence of her husband, Emmanuel Uduaghan. She further claimed that Akpabio implied she should “take care of him” to gain favorable consideration for her motions in the Senate.

In response, Ekaette Akpabio, the Senate President’s wife, filed two defamation lawsuits against Akpoti-Uduaghan, demanding N350 billion in damages.
Akpabio urged the public and media not to rush to conclusions, stressing that the matter should be left to the judiciary. “I thank my colleagues who have shown support and solidarity. I believe the Almighty God will vindicate the just,” he added.
As the controversy unfolds, all eyes remain on the legal battle ahead.
